ABOUT ME

Miami Native: volleyball player, journalist, and daughter on a mission

UNC Junior carries her father's legacy while forging a path in media and storytelling.

I'm Jackie Taylor, a 20-year-old from Miami, Florida, studying Media and Journalism at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. As a member of the Carolina Volleyball team, I've learned that resilience isn't just built on the court — it's shaped by life itself.

“Live everyday to the fullest. Never have a day where you want another chance at achieving a goal. Make it happen.”– Sean Taylor

Losing my father, NFL legend Sean Taylor, taught me that legacy is something you live, not just inherit. That belief drives my work with The Sean Taylor Legacy Project, where I carry forward his spirit of perseverance. I'm passionate about storytelling, sports, and inspiring the next generation to turn their pain into purpose.

SKILLS

My Human Skills

Leadership

Carolina Volleyball team groupd huddle during game

I am team oriented, coming from a background of playing sports. Along with playing team sports comes leading your teammates and learning what makes them click and how they need to be addressed. This is a helpful trait especially when working with a team — taking ownership and directing co-workers toward a shared goal.

Work Ethic

I am a self-motivated person and pride myself in working hard and not cutting shortcuts. I think this is a skill I developed through sports — learning what dedication looks like and how hard you have to work to achieve success.

Attention to Detail

I like to focus on the details and the aesthetic of things, especially when it comes to creative tasks. Details are always very important in a business setting because any small detail can make or break a prototype. I bring that careful eye onto every team I join.

AI Skills

AI is a tool — one that sharpens your ideas and boosts efficiency. It's not taking over the world, but how we use it shapes our future. Instead of resisting it, we should learn to use it intentionally, so we stay sharp, think critically, and keep challenging ourselves.

Benefits of AI

Organization

When information is scattered, AI helps me consolidate it into something easier to understand.

Troubleshooting

While coding, it's easy to miss a small syntax error. AI helps me find those quickly without taking time away from my creativity.

Exploring Options

AI can generate a variety of examples, sketches, and inspiration to help me develop a design plan more efficiently.

Where AI Falls Short

Personal Connections

AI can't replace human connection. That's something I bring, sharing real experiences and building genuine relationships.

Style Choices

I make my own style decisions. If AI suggests something I like, I'll incorporate that piece, but the colors and overall direction are always my own.

Ethical Judgment

AI simply does what it's told. My goal in any class is to understand what the professor expects and meet that standard with integrity.

What's your take on AI?

COMMUNITY OUTREACH

The Sean Taylor Legacy Project

Giving back was instilled in me long before I fully understood its power. My father wasn't just legendary on the field — he made everyone around him feel valued, from family to strangers. That selflessness shaped me. In 2021, I created The Sean Taylor Legacy Project to honor that spirit by donating to schools, local organizations, and individuals in need. More than charity, it's about connecting with youth, helping them find hope and inspiration through his story, and building a tradition that leaves a lasting impact across generations.
